Streator Leading Ladies Launch New Community Service Award
The Streator Leading Ladies announced the establishment of a new community service award during their monthly meeting on September 18 at Chipper’s Grill. This award, named after Beckie Chismarick, will honor a local female graduate of Streator High School, supplementing an existing award for graduates from Woodland.
President Jill Newbold presided over the meeting, during which members reviewed previous correspondence. Notably, they received thank-you notes from scholarship recipients Lanae Lucas and Zeel Patel. The group also welcomed guests Merianne Morris and Sandy Shartzer to the gathering.
The meeting highlighted the success of a recent fundraiser held at the Bullpen, reported by Treasurer Carolyn Erler. Members expressed enthusiasm for the new award and discussed upcoming community initiatives.
Future Projects and Fundraising Efforts
Members will provide refreshments at the upcoming production by Engle Lane in October. Additionally, they voted on future monthly projects, which include supporting Safe Journey, sending cards to veterans, and preparing care packages for servicemen. Other initiatives include bell ringing and hosting a dance for Streator Unlimited.
The organization will once again offer large Kringles for sale, with pre-orders accepted now. These will be available at the Holiday Market on November 29 at the Bruce Township Hall. Interested customers can reach out to any member or call 815-257-0131 to place orders. Proceeds from the sales will benefit the scholarship fund and Math Awards.
The next meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, at Chipper’s. The Streator Leading Ladies invites anyone interested in joining this active service organization to contact a member or attend the upcoming meeting.
