Surrey’s Salvation Army Launches Kettle Campaign, Seeks Volunteers
The Salvation Army in Surrey is actively recruiting volunteers for its annual Christmas kettle campaign, which will run from November 21 to December 24. This initiative aims to raise funds that will directly support the organization’s local programs, including a weekly food distribution service and community church activities. According to Peggy Leung, a community engagement specialist, all funds raised in Surrey will remain within the community to assist those in need.
The kettle campaign has a rich history, originating in 1891 in San Francisco, and has since expanded globally. Volunteers will be stationed at various locations throughout Surrey, where they will engage with the public, answer questions, and encourage donations. The role demands dedication, as volunteers are expected to remain at their kettle for their entire shift, working with minimal supervision.
While the volunteer position does not offer standard weekly hours or guaranteed shifts, applicants should be prepared to work a flexible schedule, which may include shifts from Monday to Saturday, covering days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
“Your time at the kettle will help change lives in your community, one donation at a time,” the volunteer posting emphasizes, highlighting the impactful nature of this work.
For those interested in making a difference this holiday season, more information about volunteering can be found by visiting volunteerconnector.org/surrey-bc/the-salvation-army-surrey-ministries/seasonal-kettle-volunteers. To apply directly, individuals can email [email protected].
Participating in this campaign not only supports essential services but also fosters a sense of community during the festive season. The Salvation Army encourages residents of Surrey to come forward and lend their time for this worthy cause.
