Watermain Repairs Lead to Partial Road Closure on Island Highway
A partial road closure is currently in effect on Island Highway South at 390 Island Highway South as crews from the City of Campbell River undertake emergency repairs to a watermain break. The closure, which began on November 26, 2023, allows for single-lane, alternating traffic, and is likely to cause delays for motorists in the area.
Residents and businesses along a stretch of the highway, specifically between 415 and 300 Island Highway South, are experiencing a temporary water shutoff due to the ongoing repairs. This disruption is expected to last until the repairs are completed. In addition, some nearby areas may notice discolouration in their water supply. According to city officials, this discolouration is purely aesthetic and should not pose any health risks.
For residents encountering discoloured or cloudy water, especially those not within the shutoff area, it is recommended to run cold water taps—preferably in the bathtub, which allows for a higher flow—until the water appears clear.
The City of Campbell River has advised residents to follow all traffic control measures in place during this period. For updates on the situation, community members can visit the city’s official website or follow their social media channels. The city requests that residents refrain from contacting the Dogwood Operations Centre for updates. However, for any water-related concerns, residents can reach out via email at [email protected] or by calling 250-286-4033.
As repairs continue, city crews are working diligently to restore normal water service and minimize the impact on local traffic.
