Nominations Open for Sault Ste. Marie’s Prestigious Medal of Merit
The City of Sault Ste. Marie has officially opened nominations for the 2025 Medal of Merit, the highest honour awarded to individuals or groups for their significant contributions to the community. The award recognizes achievements across various fields that have positively impacted the local or broader community.
Recognizing Community Contributions
The Medal of Merit celebrates a range of accomplishments, from athletic excellence to cultural and academic achievements. Past recipients have included notable figures who have made remarkable contributions to society. One of the most recent honorees, Connie Raynor-Elliott, founded the grassroots organization Save Our Young Adults (SOYA). Established approximately 14 years ago in her own home, SOYA has become a vital resource for individuals facing challenges such as addiction, homelessness, and social vulnerability. The organization now operates from its location on Gore Street.
Community members are encouraged to nominate deserving candidates for the medal, which highlights the importance of local activism and support. The nomination process is open until November 30, 2025. Interested individuals can submit nominations through the City Clerk’s office or access nomination forms online at the city’s official website, saultstemarie.ca/medalofmerit.
How to Nominate
Nominations will be accepted by the City Clerk on behalf of the Medal of Merit Selection Committee. To ensure that every eligible candidate is recognized, nomination forms are available for download online, or they can be obtained directly from the City Clerk’s office. For further assistance, individuals can contact the office at 705-759-5388.
As the nomination period unfolds, the city looks forward to honoring those whose efforts have enriched the lives of others, reaffirming Sault Ste. Marie’s commitment to community spirit and support.
