Two Arrested in Harvard Medical School Explosion Investigation
Two men from Massachusetts have been arrested in connection with an explosion that occurred at Harvard Medical School over the weekend. The FBI’s Boston office confirmed the arrests on March 1, 2024, just before a scheduled news conference at 13:00 local time.
The explosion took place early on Saturday morning, March 2, on the fourth floor of the Goldenson Building, which houses laboratories and offices for the neurobiology department. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as a result of the explosion, and officials stated that the incident did not cause any structural damage.
According to officials from Harvard Medical School, all laboratories and equipment within the building remained intact following the explosion. The Boston Fire Department has determined that the explosion was intentional, prompting a thorough investigation by local authorities. After conducting a sweep of the premises, police reported that no additional explosive devices were found.
The incident began when a fire alarm was triggered early Saturday morning. Upon arriving at the scene, university police encountered two individuals fleeing the building. This prompted further investigation by the FBI and local law enforcement.
As the investigation continues, authorities have not released additional details regarding the arrested individuals or their potential motivations. The community remains on alert, but officials emphasize that there is no ongoing threat related to the incident.
Updates are expected as the investigation progresses, and further information will be shared during the upcoming news conference. Harvard Medical School officials have expressed their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all students and staff on campus.
