United Airlines has significantly expanded its fleet with the recent delivery of three Airbus A321neo aircraft, marking a notable achievement in its operations. All three planes were delivered within a week, including two on the same day. The latest additions bring United’s total A321neo fleet to 56, with an average age of just one year, according to data from ch-aviation.

New Aircraft Arrive in Florida

The newly delivered A321neos arrived at Tampa International Airport (TPA). The first aircraft, registered as N14565, touched down on December 23, 2025, after a flight from Mobile International Airport (BFM). The subsequent two planes, with registrations N34562 and N14563, followed closely behind, arriving on December 29, 2025. Mobile, Alabama, serves as Airbus’s primary production site in the United States for the A320 family, including the A321neo model.

Since the facility opened in 2015, Airbus has produced hundreds of A320-family jets, with the first Alabama-built A321 delivered to JetBlue in 2016. Currently, Airbus employs over 2,000 people across its production and engineering facilities in the state.

Airbus Adjusts Delivery Targets Amid Challenges

Airbus has revised its delivery targets for the year, aiming to deliver approximately 790 aircraft instead of the previously anticipated 820. This adjustment follows the identification of supplier quality issues that have affected the delivery flow of the A320 family. As of November 2025, Airbus had delivered a total of 657 aircraft to 87 customers globally, necessitating an additional 133 deliveries to meet the revised target.

In December, Airbus faced a slower than average delivery pace, delivering around 29 aircraft in the first half of the month. Industry analysts cited ongoing concerns among airlines regarding corrective actions related to a fuselage issue affecting some aircraft. The previous month, Airbus delivered 72 new aircraft to 42 customers, a decrease of 12 from the same period last year and a drop from October’s total of 78 deliveries.

The need to revise the delivery outlook stemmed from the discovery of a quality issue linked to metal fuselage panels manufactured by supplier Sofitec Aero, which were produced at an incorrect thickness. Internal documents revealed that 628 A320-family aircraft have been flagged for inspection, including 168 already in service, 245 on final assembly lines, and another 215 still in early production stages.

In addition, the A320 family faced software issues that led to the temporary grounding of thousands of aircraft, further impacting delivery schedules. On November 28, 2025, Airbus ordered the grounding of numerous A320 family aircraft after a midair incident was linked to a software glitch triggered by solar radiation, affecting approximately 6,000 aircraft.

United Airlines’ rapid acquisition of new A321neos highlights the airline’s commitment to modernizing its fleet and enhancing operational efficiency, even as Airbus navigates challenges in its production and delivery processes.
