The Pembroke 50+ Centre is embracing the holiday season by offering a range of engaging activities, classes, and community events that promise to bring joy and connection. With only 19 shopping days left until Christmas, the Centre invites individuals to consider gifting experiences rather than traditional presents. A gift certificate can provide access to memberships, activity coupons, art classes, and much more, ensuring that the joy lasts well beyond the festive season.

This year, the Centre is excited to launch its “One Sign-Up, Two Years of Benefits” initiative. New members and those who have not yet renewed can purchase a membership for just $10, valid until March 2026, along with the option to prepay $25 for the 2026-2027 year. This offer presents an unexpected opportunity for connection, learning, and community engagement.

For those with a flair for creativity, renowned instructor Robin Knox will lead a Christmas-themed watercolour class on December 12, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.. The class costs $25 and includes all necessary supplies. Knox is known for fostering a warm and encouraging atmosphere that blends instruction with creativity. Following this, a four-week Winter Wildlife watercolour course will commence on January 9, 2026, priced at $100.

Art enthusiasts might also be interested in the upcoming six-week acrylic and oil painting sessions led by Helen Nephin, starting on January 12, 2026. These classes, available on either Monday or Tuesday, are offered at $60 and cater to both beginners and experienced artists, creating a welcoming environment for all.

In addition to artistic pursuits, the Centre encourages members to stay active outdoors. The final Walk & Talk of the year is scheduled for December 8, 2025, at 1 p.m., at the scenic Petawawa Terrace. Participants are invited to bring snacks and drinks, dress for the weather, and enjoy a leisurely two-hour walk among nature.

The Centre is also seeking volunteers for the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). Volunteers can assist in various roles, including client greeting and tax preparation, with training provided. This initiative represents a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the community, making a significant impact on those in need.

A highlight of the holiday festivities is the Christmas Sweater Luncheon, where participants can showcase their most festive attire. Tickets are priced at $10, with an extended sale deadline of December 8 for dedicated holiday enthusiasts. This year, the event will feature the Dementia Society Ottawa & Renfrew County, creating a communal atmosphere enriched with shared stories, hearty meals, and light-hearted games.

As the holiday season unfolds, the Pembroke 50+ Centre remains a hub of community spirit. Each event and activity strengthens the connections among members, making the Centre a cherished place for learning, volunteering, and celebration. The Centre invites everyone to join in these festivities, contributing to a vibrant community tapestry woven through shared experiences.
