Addison Lucht achieved a remarkable milestone by scoring her 2,000th career point during the Cissna Park Timberwolves’ decisive 65-26 victory over Clifton Central on March 1, 2024. This historic accomplishment took place at the very gym where Lucht developed her passion for basketball, marking a significant moment in her athletic career.

Lucht, who had recently surpassed the previous program scoring record held by Heidi McKean, dominated the game with an impressive 28-point performance. She showcased her scoring ability early, netting 22 points in the first half, which included a notable 13-point effort in the second quarter. Her milestone points came swiftly in the third quarter when she executed a steal followed by a layup, bringing her career total to 2,000.

Timberwolves’ head coach Anthony Videka praised Lucht’s humility and team-oriented mindset, noting that she consistently prioritizes sharing the basketball. “She’s just a very humble kid and she’s going to share the basketball because it’s the right play,” Videka remarked. “I don’t know what our assist record is, but she’s sniffing it if she doesn’t already have that.” Lucht contributed four assists in addition to her scoring, reflecting her role as a pass-first primary scorer.

In discussing her achievement, Lucht emphasized the support she receives from her teammates, particularly fellow seniors like Lauryn Hamrick, Sophie Duis, and Josie Neukomm. “I think that’s always been my game, trying to get other people involved first,” she stated. “When I try to rush my shots and force stuff, that’s when I don’t play very well. I just try to let the game come to me.”

The Timberwolves improved their season record to 21-2 with this victory, marking their ninth consecutive win. This streak is particularly impressive as it includes victories against four teams with over 17 wins. The team faces significant challenges ahead with upcoming matches against Pontiac on March 4, a rivalry game against Watseka/Milford on March 6, and a final matchup with Iroquois West on March 8. These games will not only test the team’s skills but also prepare them for the postseason, where they previously finished third in the IHSA Class 1A State Finals last year.

Videka highlighted the importance of these upcoming games, stating, “It lets us see what we need to get better at and where we need to improve.” He emphasized that playing against various styles of teams will enhance their readiness for the postseason.

Despite the loss, Clifton Central showed resilience, with Alexis Prisock leading the team with six points and both Maddie Webb and Lia Prairie contributing five points each. The Comets started strong, trailing by just four points at the end of the first quarter. However, fatigue set in as they played their third game in a span of four nights, following a narrow overtime loss to Tri-Point. Coach Henry Hines acknowledged the challenge, stating, “We played really hard in the first half, then we just ran out of gas.”

As the Timberwolves continue their season, Lucht’s historic achievement serves as a testament to her dedication and the support of her teammates, further solidifying her legacy within the Cissna Park basketball program.
