Calgary Teen Charged for Allegedly Creating AI-Generated Explicit Images
A high school student in Calgary, Alberta, faces serious charges for allegedly using artificial intelligence to create sexualized images of teenage girls. The 17-year-old is accused of producing and distributing explicit photos of multiple girls from various high schools in the Calgary area.
The investigation began after a search warrant was executed at a residential property in Calgary over two weeks ago. Staff-Sgt. Mark Auger from the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) confirmed that two cellphones, a tablet, and a laptop were seized during the operation. The identities of the accused and the victims are being withheld to protect the privacy of those involved.
Under Canada’s Criminal Code, the creation and distribution of child sex abuse and exploitation materials is a criminal offense. According to Auger, this includes any visual representation of individuals under the age of 18 engaged in explicit sexual activity. He emphasized the severity of the act, stating, “What teens need to realize is that creating these images and sharing deep fakes is considered an extreme form of bullying and a criminal offence, and we will take action against it.”
The case highlights the alarming trend of using technology to exploit minors, raising concerns about the psychological impact on victims and the legal implications for offenders. ALERT, a specialized police unit, focuses on serious crimes such as trafficking, child exploitation, and gang violence.
As the legal process unfolds, this incident serves as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with technological advancements and the importance of safeguarding young individuals from exploitation.
This report was initially published on December 3, 2025, by The Canadian Press. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
