Mega Cat Studios Unveils Gumball in Trick-Or-Treat Land Devblog

Mega Cat Studios has unveiled a new developer blog video for its upcoming game, Gumball in Trick-Or-Treat Land. This charming turn-based RPG, developed by solo creator Adam Lewis Graf, is set to launch in 2026 on both Steam and the Game Boy Color. The video provides an insightful look into the game’s origins and the creative process behind its development.
From Concept to Creation
In the developer blog, Graf shares the evolution of his project, beginning with a simple concept: a top-down puzzler featuring a ball of goo searching for a lost pen. This idea has significantly transformed into an eight-hour Halloween adventure that follows a gumball on a heartfelt quest to return home. Throughout the over twenty-minute video, Graf candidly discusses his journey in learning pixel art and how he established a unique visual style.
Initially, the game featured an action-heavy combat system. However, Graf shifted towards a more strategic turn-based battle approach, enriching the gameplay. He also cites the influence of classic games like EarthBound in shaping the narrative and quirky characters, contributing to a playful and engaging experience.
Gameplay and Visuals
Gumball in Trick-Or-Treat Land offers a family-friendly RPG experience, blending strategic battles with lighthearted storytelling. Players can expect to explore a vibrant Halloween-themed world filled with colorful characters. The game encourages players to brew potions, solve puzzles, and unlock new skills while managing health points (HP) and magical abilities. Each battle requires careful planning, adding depth to the gameplay.
The visuals draw inspiration from 8-bit retro games, capturing a nostalgic charm appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers. Graf’s development process has been transparent, allowing fans to engage with the journey as the game progresses.
Those interested in the whimsical adventure can now wishlist Gumball in Trick-Or-Treat Land on its official Steam page. As Graf continues to share updates, enthusiasts can look forward to more insights into this delightful blend of classic gameplay and innovative design.
