Ottawa Residents Urged to Report Debris from Plane Crash

Residents of Ottawa are being asked to assist in the search for debris from a small plane crash that occurred last month. On July 31, 2023, a Grumman AA-5A aircraft, carrying three individuals, crash-landed in a wooded area near Riverside Drive, close to the Ottawa airport. The incident resulted in the death of the pilot, while the two passengers sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) has issued a statement via social media requesting that residents along the flight path be vigilant in checking their properties for any potential debris. This includes inspecting land, pools, and gutters for foreign objects that may have fallen during the aircraft’s flight.
Flight Path and Investigation Continues
The TSB has identified the flight path, which encompasses several neighbourhoods in Ottawa’s west end, including Westboro, Carlington, Central Park, Parkwood Hills, and Fisher Glen. To aid in the search, the agency has provided a map outlining the flight path and photographs indicating the possible appearance of debris, some of which may be as small as a toonie.
As the investigation proceeds, the TSB continues to gather information about the crash. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information regarding the debris to reach out to them directly. Residents can contact the TSB at [email protected].
The agency’s ongoing investigation aims not only to determine the causes of the crash but also to ensure that such incidents can be prevented in the future. The TSB’s call for public assistance underscores the importance of community involvement in aviation safety efforts.
