Three Charged in Series of Violent Carjackings in Peel Region
Peel Regional Police have charged three individuals, including two teenagers, in connection with a series of violent carjackings in the Peel Region of Ontario. The suspects include two 16-year-olds and an 18-year-old, with both minors facing additional charges for failing to comply with a release order.
The incidents began on December 10, 2023, at approximately 20:40 in Brampton. Police reported that a vehicle occupied by masked individuals deliberately struck the rear of a newer-model BMW SUV near the intersection of Humberwest Parkway and Queen Street East. The victim exited the SUV and fled on foot, leaving the vehicle behind. Authorities later discovered the BMW damaged and unoccupied.
A second carjacking occurred on December 13, 2023, around 17:20 in Mississauga. During this incident, the victim was confronted by three suspects wielding a knife. Fearing for their safety, the victim surrendered the car keys, allowing the suspects to escape with the vehicle. This stolen car was subsequently involved in a collision on Highway 403, where witnesses reported seeing the suspects enter the vehicle used in the earlier carjacking.
After several days of investigation, police spotted the suspect vehicle on December 18, 2023, at about 17:00 in Mississauga, near the area of Dundas Street West and Winston Churchill Boulevard. Officers noticed the occupants were wearing masks and gloves. With assistance from the K9 and Tactical Units, law enforcement apprehended the individuals.
Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich emphasized the seriousness of these crimes, stating, “These were violent crimes which will carry lasting impacts on the victims and our community. The arrests will end this crime spree, prevent others in our communities from being targeted, and ensure the suspects are held accountable for their actions.”
The suspects, identified as Tayvien Coley, 18, from Toronto, and the two 16-year-olds from Brampton and Mississauga, face multiple charges including conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, robbery, wearing a disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained by crime. The two minors also face charges related to their failure to comply with a release order.
In conjunction with the arrests, a search warrant was executed at a residence in Mississauga, where police located and seized property related to the offences.
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding these incidents to reach out to the Central Robbery Bureau at 905-453-2121 ext. 3410 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
