The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced a recall of specific Pillsbury brand Pizza Pops due to potential contamination with E. coli O26. This recall affects various types of Pizza Pops, particularly the pepperoni and bacon varieties sold in 760-gram and 2.85-kilogram packages, with best-before dates of June 9 and June 10, 2026.

In addition to these, the recall includes Pizza Pops Supremo Extreme pepperoni and bacon snacks packaged in three-kilogram boxes with best-before dates ranging from June 10 to June 12, 2026. Another affected product is the Pizza Pops Frank’s RedHot pepperoni and bacon sold in 380-gram packages, which bears a best-before date of June 14, 2026.

The CFIA has urged consumers to dispose of the affected products or return them to the store where they were purchased. The agency emphasizes that contaminated food may not exhibit signs of spoilage but can still pose serious health risks.

E. coli infections can lead to severe illness, particularly in children. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, and diarrhea. In more serious cases, medical attention might be necessary.

In a statement, General Mills confirmed that this is a voluntary recall and stated that other Pillsbury Pizza Pops products remain unaffected. The company has taken this precautionary step to ensure the safety of its consumers.

For those who may have purchased these products, it is crucial to check packaging for the specified best-before dates and to follow the CFIA’s guidance regarding disposal or returns. The health implications associated with E. coli contamination underscore the importance of food safety and awareness among consumers.
