Saanich Student Oskar Williams Wins Holiday Card Contest
The District of Saanich has declared that Grade 4 student Oskar Williams is the winner of the annual Mayor and Council Holiday Card contest. After reviewing numerous submissions, Mayor Dean Murdock highlighted Oskar’s creative design, which featured Saanich’s official bird, the great horned owl, adorned with a festive Santa hat.
Mayor Murdock praised Oskar’s work, saying, “Oskar did a marvelous job. I love the Santa hat, all the bright colours, and the owl’s recognizable large yellow eyes.” The mayor also commended all participants, noting, “Each young artist should be very proud of what they created this year.” The contest received a diverse range of artistic expressions, with entries showcasing various holiday themes, including penguins, presents, ice skating, snow angels, and Santa Claus.
The municipality extends its gratitude to everyone involved, including students, teachers, educators, parents, and caregivers. Their support has been crucial to maintaining this cherished annual tradition. Oskar’s winning design will be featured on the holiday card sent out by the mayor and council, as well as shared across the district’s social media platforms.
Celebrating Young Talent in Saanich
Mayor Murdock expressed his enthusiasm for recognizing Oskar’s achievement, saying he looks forward to welcoming the young artist to municipal hall in the new year as “mayor of the morning.” This initiative not only encourages creativity among local students but also fosters community spirit during the festive season.
