Amazon has unveiled a trailer for its upcoming documentary, focusing on Melania Trump during the pivotal 20 days leading to Donald Trump’s inauguration for a second term as U.S. President in 2025. Titled MELANIA, the film is set to be released in theaters worldwide on January 30, 2026. The film’s tagline promises viewers an intimate look at “history in the making.”

The trailer opens with Donald Trump addressing a crowd, asserting, “My proudest legacy will be that of peacemaker.” Melania, standing beside him, interjects, “peacemaker and unifier.” The footage includes behind-the-scenes moments, showcasing Melania coaching her husband on speeches and elegantly placing flowers on a grave. As the trailer comes to a close, she is seen calling Donald to congratulate him on his electoral victory, responding to his inquiry about watching the results with, “I didn’t, but I will see it on the news.”

Melania Trump, the former first lady and Donald Trump’s third wife, has maintained a largely private life since her husband announced his presidential candidacy in 2016. While raising their son, Barron Trump, and advocating for her “Be Best” initiative aimed at promoting the health of children, she has been a somewhat enigmatic figure. “Everyone wants to know, so here it is,” she states in the trailer, signaling her willingness to share her story.

Connections to Amazon and Jeff Bezos

The documentary also highlights the evolving relationship between the Trump administration and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. In December 2025, Amazon announced a contribution of $1 million to the inauguration fund for the president-elect, in addition to providing an in-kind donation valued at another $1 million by streaming the inauguration on its Prime Video service. Despite past tensions between Trump and Bezos, particularly regarding the coverage of Trump in The Washington Post, which Bezos owns, recent interactions have seen a shift toward reconciliation.

Bezos has expressed optimism about potential regulatory changes under Trump’s leadership and did not permit The Washington Post to endorse a presidential candidate during the last election cycle. This decision led to significant backlash, including a wave of subscription cancellations and protests from journalists with longstanding ties to the publication.

Brett Ratner’s Directorial Return

The film is directed by Brett Ratner, marking his first project since multiple allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced against him in 2017. Ratner, known for directing the “Rush Hour” series and “X-Men: The Last Stand”, has denied the allegations through his legal representatives. The documentary is executive produced by Argentine filmmaker Fernando Sulichin, with production commencing in December 2025.

With its scheduled release date of January 30, 2026, MELANIA promises to provide a unique glimpse into the life of the former first lady, exploring her role during a significant period in American political history. As anticipation builds, the trailer suggests a blend of personal and political narratives that could captivate audiences when it hits theaters.
