David F. West, a devoted husband and respected community member, died peacefully on October 30, 2025, at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ann West (née Baker), and their four children, Catherine DeClerck (Tom Fraser), David W. West (Lori-Ann), Jennifer Lees (Gordon), and Kimberly Wright (Ron). Known affectionately as “Pop,” he was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, leaving behind a legacy of love and faith.

Born on May 27, 1940, David’s life was a testament to his strong Christian faith. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour on May 26, 1951, and his unwavering belief influenced every aspect of his life. David attended local schools, including Prince Charles Elementary School and Soo Tech High School, before earning a degree in Engineering Technology from the DeVry Institute of Technology.

David began his professional journey at Crothers Equipment in Sault Ste. Marie, where he honed his skills before joining Algoma Steel. He dedicated 32 years of his career to the company, ultimately retiring as Supervisor in the Electrical Repair Shop. His work ethic and commitment to learning were evident as he balanced his professional responsibilities with raising a family.

Community Involvement and Personal Legacy

David and Carolyn’s love story began when they were teenagers. They met in 1956, and their relationship blossomed into a 62-year marriage, characterized by mutual respect and devotion. Throughout their life together, David remained active in community outreach and was heavily involved in the Sault Ste. Marie Gospel Hall. He supported preachers, missionaries, and neighbors, demonstrating kindness and generosity to all.

His family expresses profound gratitude to those who supported them during David’s health challenges and eventual passing. The family acknowledges the contributions of relatives who traveled to visit, friends, and church members who provided comfort through prayer, conversation, and shared memories. Special thanks are also extended to the dedicated health professionals from Sault Area Hospital, Bayshore Home Health, CarePartners, and the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH), among others, who provided exceptional care.

A visitation will take place at Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel on November 7, 2025, from 11:00 to 12:00, followed by a Funeral Service celebrating David’s life at 12:15. Interment will occur immediately thereafter, with a time of reflection and hymn singing at the graveside.
