Ram Unveils Rampage in Europe, Dakota Launches in South America
Stellantis has officially launched the new Ram Rampage, a compact pickup designed to make its mark in the European market. This announcement coincides with the debut of the production version of the Ram Dakota, which has recently arrived in South America. While these developments generate excitement among truck enthusiasts, the availability of these models in North America remains uncertain.
The 2024 Ram Rampage was unveiled on November 3, 2023, during the Fieracavalli 2025 event in Italy, a venue traditionally associated with equestrian culture. This new truck is positioned as a “premium compact pickup,” though potential buyers in other regions may need to wait for its arrival. The Rampage shares design elements with larger Ram models while maintaining a manageable size, appealing to a market that has shown increasing interest in midsize trucks.
At approximately 5,025 millimetres (just under 200 inches) in length, the Rampage features a unibody construction that draws influences from vehicles such as the Alfa Romeo Tonale and Dodge Hornet. Although the truck will be manufactured in Brazil, the European models are expected to maintain similar specifications to their South American counterparts, with minor adjustments to meet regional preferences.
While the Rampage is set to capture attention in Europe and South America, its prospects in North America appear limited. High tariffs and the complexities of regulatory certification make it unlikely that the Rampage will cross the Atlantic. Stellantis is reportedly exploring the development of a different midsize truck, which could be branded as the Dakota. This model will also be produced in Argentina, alongside a Fiat variant, but will be based on architecture sourced from China.
The absence of a compact or midsize truck from the Ram lineup in North America has drawn frustration from enthusiasts who often compare the brand to competitors like the Ford Maverick and Ranger. As demand for smaller trucks continues to grow, Ram’s strategy will be closely scrutinized by consumers eager for options in this segment.
The launch of the Rampage and Dakota reflects Stellantis’ commitment to expanding the Ram brand’s footprint in international markets. As the automotive landscape evolves, the response from consumers will play a critical role in determining the future of these models.
In the meantime, North American customers remain hopeful that Stellantis will take the necessary steps to introduce a version of the Rampage or Dakota that can compete with popular midsize trucks. Until then, fans of the brand are left to contemplate the potential of these new offerings while navigating the realities of the current market landscape.
