The Yukon Party has achieved a significant victory in the recent election, winning 14 out of 21 seats in the Yukon Legislative Assembly. Following this success, Yukon Party Leader Currie Dixon communicated his confidence to Yukon Commissioner Adeline Webber, who subsequently invited him to form the next government. This invitation marks a pivotal moment in the political landscape of Yukon, as Dixon emphasized that the visit initiated the process of implementing the changes that Yukoners have voted for.

In preparation for this transition, Dixon announced a team composed of seasoned public servants who bring extensive governmental experience. The transition team includes Jason Bilsky, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Yukon Hospital Corporation, Katherine White, the previous Deputy Minister of Finance in Alberta, and Eric Schroff, the Yukon Party’s vice-president and a former assistant deputy minister of Community Services and Economic Development.

Jason Bilsky has had a long-standing career in public service, having led the Yukon Hospital Corporation since 2012 before retiring in fall 2024. His background as a chartered professional accountant positions him well for the fiscal responsibilities that lie ahead. Katherine White brings a wealth of experience from her tenure as deputy minister in various roles, including jobs and economy, and most recently served under Premier Danielle Smith in Alberta’s Treasury Board and Finance. White was also recognized as the chief economist for the Alberta government.

The inclusion of Eric Schroff, who has experience in community services and economic development, rounds out a diverse team that aims to navigate the complexities of governance effectively.

As the Yukon Party prepares for its transition into power, further details about the new government’s plans and initiatives are expected to be released in the coming days. This transition represents a crucial step in realizing the aspirations of Yukoners as indicated in the recent election results.
