Montreal Transit Strike Suspended, New Disruptions Loom This Weekend
Montreal commuters received positive news as the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) announced the suspension of its maintenance workers’ strike. Full service is set to return gradually, with bus and metro operations resuming throughout the day on November 12, 2025, and regular service expected to be fully restored by November 13, 2025.
In an update posted on its website, the STM indicated that bus service began ramping up at 6:15 a.m., followed by metro service at 6:30 a.m.. Although passengers can start using the transit network from these times, it may take several hours for services to return to their normal frequencies. This strike, which was originally scheduled to last until November 28, 2025, resulted in nearly two weeks of disruptions, limiting public transit operations to peak-hour schedules and forcing many riders to seek alternative transportation.
Upcoming Strike Notice Raises Concerns
While maintenance workers are set to return to their duties after their third strike of 2025, concerns loom over another potential strike. The union representing STM bus drivers, operators, and station agents has filed a notice for a strike on November 15 and 16, 2025. On November 1, STM drivers and operators initiated their first strike in nearly four decades, halting all bus and metro services in Montreal for a day.
The Administrative Labour Tribunal (TAT) is expected to determine which essential services must be maintained during the upcoming walkout. The STM has committed to providing updates on potential service impacts on its official strike information page once the tribunal’s decision is made.
Commuters Advised to Stay Informed
As service gradually resumes, commuters are encouraged to check real-time schedules and updates before heading out. It is important to note that buses and trains may take the majority of the day to return to standard operating times. The STM aims to minimize disruptions, but the possibility of further inconvenience remains on the horizon.
With winter approaching, Montreal’s commuters face additional challenges. Those relying on public transport should remain vigilant about service updates and explore alternative travel options to ensure they reach their destinations without delays.
