Victoria Radio Host Steve Duffy Passes Away at 73
Longtime Victoria radio host Steve Duffy has passed away at the age of 73 after a prolonged battle with multisystem atrophy disease. Duffy, who graced the airwaves for over 40 years across Vancouver Island, died on November 11, 2025. His death marks a significant loss for the local community, where he was a prominent figure.
In a heartfelt statement, his wife, Susan Duffy, reflected on the impact of his life, saying, “It is a testament to his unyielding spirit that he departed on November 11, a day that honours the bravery and perseverance he embodied.” She added that his legacy would be cherished by family, friends, and the community, who were inspired by his voice and presence.
Duffy is survived by his wife and their two children, Jordan and Shannon Duffy. Susan described him as a devoted husband and father, stating, “His love for life, despite the challenges he faced, is a profound inspiration to us all. Rest in peace, my darling; your freedom is now yours to cherish.”
Four Decades of Broadcasting
Steve Duffy’s broadcasting career began in 1972 at CJAV-FM in Port Alberni. Reflecting on his journey, he shared in a February 2017 interview with CHEK News, “I was hired there, I guess right off the street. A friend of mine had been there – we talked in school about doing radio – and one day he phoned and said, ‘Are you still interested?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ He said, ‘Get your butt over here.’ I had on-the-job training.”
Duffy later became well-known as a host on CFAX 1070, where his engaging style resonated with listeners. His son, Jordan, paid tribute to his father by describing him as a “pillar in the local broadcasting community,” emphasizing his deep commitment to supporting local sports and the unifying power of athletics.
A Life Beyond the Airwaves
Outside of radio, Duffy found joy in various pursuits, including painting, traveling, bicycling, and music. His family and friends remember him for his kindness, laughter, and generous spirit, which brightened the lives of those around him.
As the community mourns the loss of Steve Duffy, his contributions to local broadcasting and his enthusiasm for life will remain a lasting legacy. The outpouring of affection from listeners and residents underscores the significant impact he had throughout his career.
