Andrew Evans has been appointed as the new president of Summit Pacific College (SPC), as announced on November 20, 2023. Evans is set to officially assume the role in the summer of 2024, succeeding Dave Demchuk, who has held the presidency since 2007. Evans has been a part of the SPC community since 2010, initially joining as the director of the youth ministry program, a position he maintained for the past 15 years.

Before his tenure at SPC, Evans accumulated over a decade of experience in pastoral ministry. He earned his undergraduate degree from SPC, which was previously known as Western Pentecostal Bible College. Evans furthered his education by obtaining a master’s degree from Trinity Western University and Canadian Pentecostal Seminary. In 2016, he completed a doctorate in ministry at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, focusing on emerging generations.

Search and Selection Process

The decision to appoint Evans followed an extensive search process. According to SPC’s official release, the board consulted with numerous stakeholders and interviewed a variety of candidates before selecting their new president. Debbie Tonn, a member of the college’s board of governors, stated, “Throughout this process, we engaged with strong candidates—each bringing meaningful experience, character, and a heart for ministry.”

She added, “With much prayer, discernment, and the thoughtful input of our community, the committee unanimously recognized Andrew Evans as the leader who carries both a deep love for Summit and a proven commitment to Christ-centred leadership.” Tonn noted Evans’ strong reputation among students, alumni, and partners, highlighting the trust he has earned from these key groups.

Endorsements and Future Vision

Outgoing president Dave Demchuk praised Evans, remarking, “During his time at Summit, Andrew Evans has proven himself to be a professor of the highest calibre. He is also a capable administrator and a pastor committed to developing a generation of Pentecostal leaders with a passionate spirituality.” Demchuk expressed his confidence in Evans’ ability to lead the college into its next chapter.

Founded in 1941 as the British Columbia Bible Institute in Victoria, SPC relocated to North Vancouver in 1951 and was renamed Western Pentecostal Bible College in 1961. The college moved to its current location in Abbotsford at 35235 Straiton Rd. in 1974. With its long history of serving the community, SPC looks forward to continuing its mission under new leadership.
