Surrey’s École Gabrielle-Roy to Host Thriving Winter Market
A vibrant Winter Market is set to take place at École Gabrielle-Roy, the only Francophone public school in Surrey, on December 13. This annual event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the school, located at 6887 132 Street. The market aims to celebrate local creativity and entrepreneurship within the Francophone community.
This year’s market has expanded significantly, growing from 40 to 60 exhibitors. Most of the vendors are local Francophone artists and artisans, along with students showcasing their own entrepreneurial projects. Émilie Carlen, a public affairs advisor with the Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique, highlighted the market’s importance, stating, “Visitors can browse handmade gifts and local products, enjoy food trucks, and take festive photos with Santa — all while supporting the school’s fundraising efforts.”
Vendors will pay a fee to rent a table, with all proceeds directed towards the school’s fundraising initiatives. For more information, interested attendees can visit the school’s website at gabrielleroy.csf.bc.ca or contact them via phone at 604-599-6688 or email at [email protected].
Supporting Cultural Identity and Education
The Conseil scolaire francophone is a public school board that employs over 1,200 staff members, making it one of the largest Francophone employers in Western Canada. École Gabrielle-Roy serves students from kindergarten through Grade 12 and is dedicated to nurturing students’ cultural identity while fostering a strong Francophone community.
The school’s website notes, “To achieve this, it offers an excellent French-language public education that promotes mastery of the French language, while also giving young people the opportunity to master a second language: English.” This dual-language approach not only supports language skills but also enriches the cultural fabric of the community.
As the Winter Market approaches, excitement is building among local families and community members. It promises to be a festive occasion that brings together creativity, culture, and collaboration, all while reinforcing the school’s mission to provide quality education and support to its students.
