Education
Enroll Now: Free GED and ESL Classes Begin at SVCC January 20
Sauk Valley Community College (SVCC) is set to launch its next round of Adult Education classes, offering free General Educational Development (GED) and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs starting on January 20, 2024. This initiative aims to support adults seeking to earn their high school equivalency diploma or improve their English language skills.
The GED program prepares participants to take four essential subject tests in language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. Each class is designed to not only enhance academic skills but also build the confidence necessary for pursuing further education or career opportunities. Many past students have successfully transitioned to college courses, technical training, or new employment prospects that were previously out of reach.
In addition to the GED program, SVCC offers ESL classes for adults aiming to develop their English reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities. The curriculum emphasizes practical communication skills that students can utilize in daily life, work, and their communities. Classes cater to all proficiency levels, from beginners to advanced learners, and are conducted in a supportive environment led by experienced instructors.
Opportunities for New Students
Currently, there are openings for new GED students, with a particular emphasis on increasing enrollment in the evening ESL class located at the Dixon YMCA. To facilitate registration, SVCC will host several orientation sessions throughout January, allowing prospective students to learn more about the programs and enroll before classes commence.
Both the GED and ESL programs are offered at no cost, presenting a valuable opportunity for individuals to take significant steps toward personal and academic growth. Interested parties can find more information or register for an orientation by visiting the official SVCC website at svcc.edu/adulted or by contacting the Adult Education department at 815-835-6312.
Sauk Valley Community College is committed to helping individuals unlock new opportunities and build a brighter future through education. With its inclusive programs and dedicated staff, SVCC continues to serve as a vital resource for the community.
