Annual Fish and Game Banquet Promises Fun, Food, and Awards
The annual banquet hosted by the Lloydminster and District Fish and Game Association is set to take place on January 31, 2024, at the WLS Convention Centre. This event will bring together members and the public for an evening filled with food, entertainment, and awards recognizing outstanding achievements in local hunting and fishing.
Dwayne Davison, president of the association, explained that the banquet serves as both an awards ceremony and a dinner. “We give out awards for various categories, including big game and waterfowl, based on what has been harvested this year,” he said. Winning members may also have their achievements recorded at the provincial level, adding further prestige to their accomplishments.
Guests can expect an impressive array of food at the event. Davison highlighted the appetizer table, claiming, “I’ve never been at a better one.” The full meal will feature options such as turkey, beef, roast beef, fresh sauce, beef sausage, and two types of fish, ensuring a delightful culinary experience for attendees.
The evening will also include a unique form of entertainment. Instead of musical performances, the banquet will feature outdoor adventurist Calem Watson, who is known for his thrilling solo adventures. This addition aims to enhance the social atmosphere of the event, allowing members to connect and enjoy each other’s company.
The banquet serves not only as a social gathering but also as a crucial fundraising opportunity for the association. Davison expressed optimism about the turnout, stating, “We’re hoping to get back to our pre-COVID numbers.” Before the pandemic, attendance ranged from 425 to 480 people. The association currently boasts between 1,200 to 1,600 members annually, making it the largest fish and game club in Saskatchewan.
Tickets for the event are available until January 26, 2024, and can be purchased at Grindin’ Gears or directly from Davison by calling 780-808-6420. Participants are encouraged to secure their tickets promptly to ensure a spot at this highly anticipated gathering.
