The Plano Public Library is set to host a diverse range of programs throughout February 2024, catering to adults, teens, and children. From writing workshops to yoga sessions, these events aim to enhance community engagement and provide enriching experiences for participants of all ages.

Writing and Creativity Workshops

The library invites writers to join the Writers Group on Thursdays, specifically on January 29 and February 12 and 26, from 18:30 to 20:00. Participants can connect to discuss their works in an informal setting, either in person or via Zoom. This program is open to adults and high school students, requiring no prior registration.

For those seeking a creative outlet, the Painting with Petite Palette class on February 9 from 18:30 to 20:00 offers an opportunity to explore acrylic painting. Participants will create a new piece each month, with a fee of $15 due at registration.

Health and Community Support Initiatives

On February 6, 13, 20, and 27, certified instructor Jen Penn will lead yoga classes from 10:30 to 11:30. These sessions are designed to improve mood and reduce stress, welcoming participants of all skill levels. Attendees can bring their own mats or use those provided by the library. Registration for each class is separate, allowing flexibility for those interested in attending one or multiple sessions.

Additionally, the library will host a Technology Help Desk on February 10 from 12:00 to 13:00. This free drop-in service allows community members to seek assistance from tech expert Steve Goodwin regarding their devices, such as computers and smartphones.

Another notable initiative is the New Life for Old Bags program on February 14 from 10:30 to 12:00. Participants will work together to transform plastic shopping bags into sleeping mats for the homeless. Interested individuals can contact Ceil Carey at [email protected] for further details.

Family-Friendly Activities

The library also offers a variety of engaging programs for children and families. The Bookworms session on February 3 from 17:00 to 17:45 invites students in grades kindergarten through third to enjoy stories, snacks, and crafts. Registration is required.

On February 9, children aged 0-5 can participate in Making Music from 10:30 to 11:10. This interactive class, led by music teacher Jessica Ortega, combines singing, movement, and instrument play.

For creative minds, the Create Art with Petite Palette class on February 5 offers two age-specific sessions: ages 6-10 from 16:45 to 17:45 and ages 10-18 from 18:15 to 19:15. Each session requires a $5 registration fee.

In addition, the library will host Senator Sue Rezin’s traveling office hours on February 17 from 12:30 to 14:00. A representative from her office will assist constituents with navigating state and government agency issues.

With such a variety of programs, the Plano Public Library is committed to fostering a sense of community and providing valuable learning opportunities for all. Those interested in participating can find more information and register by contacting the library directly.
