Joliet Schools Shift to E-Learning Days Due to Severe Weather
Joliet Public Schools District 86 and Joliet Township School District 204 have announced that they will transition to e-learning days on January 15, 2024, due to anticipated severe weather conditions. Both districts made this decision to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff amid dangerously low temperatures.
According to a news release from Joliet Township School District 204, “Coaches and Activity Sponsors will contact students directly if events, practices, or games are canceled.” This proactive communication aims to keep students informed about any changes to their schedules. In a similar announcement, District 86 confirmed that there will be no after-school activities held on the same day.
The National Weather Service has warned that extremely cold conditions will return on Sunday night, with wind chills expected to plummet into the range of 15 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit below zero. Such frigid temperatures pose significant risks, prompting schools to take precautionary measures.
As the situation develops, parents and guardians are advised to stay connected to school communications for further updates regarding potential school closures or other changes to the academic schedule. The safety of students during this period of severe weather remains a top priority for both districts.
With e-learning now in effect, students will be able to continue their education remotely, ensuring that instructional time is preserved despite the harsh conditions outside. Schools are prepared to support students in this transition, providing necessary resources and guidance for effective online learning.
For ongoing updates, stakeholders are encouraged to monitor official school district communications.
