Carl Honoré to Share Insights on Slow-Approach Parenting in Medicine Hat
A prominent advocate for the slow-living movement, Carl Honoré, is set to speak at the Medicine Hat High School Theatre on February 9, 2026. His keynote address titled “Helping Children Thrive in a Fast World: Building Resilience, Purpose and Joy” will focus on strategies for parents to help their children flourish amidst the pressures of modern life.
Honoré, a celebrated author and broadcaster, has gained recognition for his books such as The Slow Fix, Under Pressure, and the children’s book It’s The Journey, Not The Destination. His insights into parenting and education emphasize the benefits of adopting a slower, more mindful approach to family life. Recognized by the Globe and Mail as the “global guru” of the Slow Movement, he has captivated audiences worldwide, with his keynotes amassing over 10 million views online.
The upcoming event, sponsored by the Alberta Teachers Association, aims to address the challenges faced by parents and educators in today’s fast-paced environment. Honoré will discuss how technology, educational demands, and extracurricular activities can overwhelm children, and he will offer practical tips to foster resilience and joy.
The evening will begin with a reception at 18:00, followed by the public lecture from 18:30 to 19:30. A Q&A session will conclude the event from 19:30 to 20:00. Tickets are available for $10 per individual or $30 for a group of four, with limited seating expected.
This event promises to be informative for parents, teachers, and all community members interested in enhancing their understanding of how to create a balanced and nurturing environment for children. As Honoré advocates, allowing space for slowness in a hurried world can significantly benefit the development of young people.
