Housing Market Activity Declines in Hastings and Prince Edward County
The housing market in Hastings County and Prince Edward County experienced a typical seasonal slowdown in January 2026, according to the latest statistics from the Central Lakes Association of REALTORS®. Sales figures reflected a decline from the previous month, while average sale prices showed modest increases, suggesting a potential stabilization in prices across several regions.
In Hastings County, there were 86 home sales in January, marking a decrease of 5.5% from the 91 sales recorded in December 2025. The average selling price rose to $499,005, up from $466,716 in December, highlighting a trend of increasing values as winter market conditions took effect. New listings reached 259, a significant rise from 123 the previous month, ensuring that buyers had a variety of options. Properties in Hastings County spent an average of 69 days on the market, consistent with the longer selling times typical for this period.
Turning to Prince Edward County, the market also saw a decline in activity, with only 12 home sales recorded in January 2026, down from 22 sales in December and 21 sales in January 2025. Despite the drop in transactions, the average sale price increased to $650,694, reflecting a 5.75% month-over-month rise from $615,276. However, this figure remains 4.29% lower than the average price of $679,824 seen in January 2025. New listings in Prince Edward County totaled 48, a decrease from 57 the previous year. Homes in this region remained on the market for an average of 75 days, a notable improvement from 95 days experienced in January 2025.
Overall, the data underscores a consistent trend of seasonal adjustments in both Hastings and Prince Edward County housing markets. With new listings maintaining an active presence and average sale prices experiencing slight increases, both regions may be entering a phase of price stability despite the dip in sales volume. As the market continues to adjust to winter conditions, buyers can expect a range of options while navigating these changing dynamics.
