Storehouse Seeks More Walkers for Coldest Night Fundraiser
The Storehouse Community Hub Society is actively seeking additional participants for its major fundraising event, the Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY), scheduled for February 28, 2026. The charity, which operates the Cloverdale Community Kitchen, is currently halfway through its fundraising campaign but has only reached 35 percent of its ambitious target of $250,000. With just over two weeks remaining, the organization has raised $88,780.
More than 50 teams, comprising over 225 walkers of varying ages, have already signed up to traverse designated routes through Cloverdale. Event director Lindsay Rempel is encouraging residents of Surrey to join the cause by forming teams, fundraising, and walking to support local individuals facing hunger and homelessness.
In a heartfelt appeal made via a Facebook video on February 9, Rempel stated, “We have a way for you to make a big impact right in our community, to bring hope to individuals living right here in Surrey.” She emphasized the importance of community involvement in raising both funds and awareness for those in need.
Participants who manage to raise more than $150 (or $75 for youth) will receive a special CNOY toque as a token of appreciation. All funds collected through the event will remain with Storehouse, directly benefiting the local community. Each year, through the Cloverdale Community Kitchen, the organization serves over 45,000 hot meals to those in need.
Earlier this year, Rempel highlighted the critical nature of the funds raised during CNOY, describing them as “vital” for sustaining essential programs and addressing the significant waiting list of 500 families needing food bank services.
Event Details and Community Impact
Registration for the Coldest Night event will take place from 16:00 to 16:45 on February 28, followed by opening remarks at 16:45. The walk will commence at 17:00 and feature two routes: one spanning 2 kilometers and the other 5 kilometers, both starting and ending at Storehouse. Following the walk, participants will be treated to a hot meal, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie.
The Coldest Night of the Year is a nationwide initiative that sees tens of thousands of Canadians participating across more than 200 communities. Since its inception in 2011, the Cloverdale Community Kitchen has expanded its reach, now serving not only Cloverdale but also areas like Langley, White Rock, and beyond.
Anyone interested in supporting this cause can register to participate by visiting cnoy.org. While Storehouse is hosting the Cloverdale event, several other community groups within Surrey will also organize walks in locations such as Whalley, Newton, and White Rock.
The Storehouse Community Hub Society is located at 5337 180th Street. For additional information about the Coldest Night initiative or the Storehouse, visit storehouse.ca. The community’s support is essential in continuing the vital work of helping those in need within the region.
