Christina Dietze Breaks Age Barrier in Miss Universe Australia
In a groundbreaking change for the Miss Universe Australia competition, the age limit has been lifted, allowing women over the age of 28 to compete for the first time. This pivotal decision has paved the way for Christina Dietze, a 38-year-old model and fashion designer from South Yarra, Victoria, to become the oldest contestant in the pageant’s history.
Christina Dietze has embraced this new opportunity with enthusiasm. She aims to follow in the footsteps of her idol, Jennifer Hawkins, who won the Miss Universe Australia title in 2004. Dietze expressed her readiness for the competition, stating, “I’ve taken care of myself and I’ve been in the modelling industry for a while now,” as reported by the Herald Sun.
New Rules Promote Inclusivity
The changes, implemented in 2023, not only removed the age cap but also eliminated restrictions based on marital status. This means that married women, divorced women, and mothers are now eligible to participate. Dietze views her age as an advantage, saying, “I feel once we get to our 30s we have lived through some tougher experiences in life and we grow. I have something to share and give back.”
As she prepares for the competition, Dietze has committed to a rigorous fitness routine, engaging in daily Pilates sessions to ensure she is in peak condition. The shift towards inclusivity is a significant step for the pageant, which previously limited contestants to ages between 18 and 28.
The Youth Factor
Despite the new regulations, the trend towards younger contestants was evident in the last competition. At the Miss Universe Australia 2025 event held in Perth, Lexie Brant, a 21-year-old occupational therapy student and model from Brisbane, was crowned the winner. Brant triumphed over 28 other hopefuls and received the tiara from outgoing titleholder Zoe Creed, who represented Australia at the 2024 global finals in Mexico.
Wearing a stunning silver gown, Brant impressed the judges and audience alike during the finale. She remarked in an interview with Gold Coast Magazine that her decision to compete was deeply personal: “For me, entering Miss Universe Australia was about doing something original and intentionally outside my comfort zone.”
Brant’s achievement highlights the balance between traditional beauty standards and the evolving inclusivity in competitions like Miss Universe Australia. As the pageant embraces contestants from diverse backgrounds and age groups, it reflects broader societal changes towards acceptance and representation.
As Christina Dietze prepares to make her mark in this historic competition, her journey symbolizes a significant shift in the world of beauty pageants, where experience and wisdom are now celebrated alongside youth.
