Lethbridge Polytechnic has announced the discontinuation of Coulee Fest, an event that has been a hallmark of the institution since its inception in 2017. Originally launched as part of the institution’s 60th anniversary celebration, Coulee Fest has garnered a loyal following over the years. However, after nine successful years, the decision was made to end the festival.

Stephanie Savage, Associate Director of External Engagement, explained that the post-secondary institution, like many others across Canada, has had to reassess how best to allocate its time and resources. “While Coulee Fest has been a successful and well-loved event, continuing to deliver it at the scale it requires is no longer the right fit. Instead, we must focus on work that most directly supports students and the long-term sustainability of the institution,” she stated.

Savage expressed her gratitude to all those who contributed to the festival’s success, including attendees, volunteers, students, and sponsors. “While this chapter is ending, we remain committed to finding new ways to connect with and celebrate our community in the future, and we look forward to continuing that work together,” she said.

The decision reflects broader challenges facing educational institutions, which are increasingly required to evaluate their programs in the context of changing priorities and available resources. The Polytechnic acknowledges the understanding shown by the community as they navigate these changes.

As Lethbridge Polytechnic moves forward, the focus will shift towards initiatives that directly benefit students and enhance the institution’s long-term viability. The end of Coulee Fest marks a significant moment in the institution’s history, but the commitment to community engagement remains a top priority.

The future may hold new opportunities for connection and celebration, as Lethbridge Polytechnic seeks to explore innovative ways to maintain its relationship with the surrounding community.
