Bruce County Revives Summer Company Program to Boost Youth Entrepreneurship
Bruce County has officially reinstated the Summer Company Program, aimed at fostering entrepreneurship among students aged 15 to 29. This initiative provides essential tools and support for young individuals looking to establish their own summer businesses.
Heather Hyde, the Manager of Economic Development at Bruce County, emphasized the importance of the program, stating, “Starting a new business can feel daunting, but with the right support, the entrepreneurial journey becomes an exciting and achievable adventure.”
The program is funded by the Province of Ontario and is facilitated by Business to Bruce. It empowers youth by offering training, mentorship, and financial assistance, thus enabling them to pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations. Each participant in the Summer Company Program receives a $3,000 grant to help kickstart their business. Additionally, they benefit from comprehensive training that covers vital topics such as sales, marketing, and bookkeeping, along with mentorship from experienced local business leaders.
Supporting Youth Entrepreneurs Since 2017
Since its inception in 2017, the Summer Company Program has aided 42 young entrepreneurs. This initiative not only helps them pursue their passions but also encourages them to engage with their local communities in innovative ways while acquiring practical skills.
One former grant recipient, Daxton Brune, has shared insights on the program’s impact, highlighting how it has shaped his entrepreneurial journey. His experience serves as a testament to the program’s effectiveness in supporting youth entrepreneurship across Bruce County.
