Classes at Brandon University resumed this week following the winter break, bringing with them a series of engaging events designed to foster community and learning. Notably, the Out of Bounds Lecture Series features acclaimed opera singer and Fulbright Scholar Camryn Dewar, who will explore the theme of female Indigenous representation in Canadian opera from 1879 to the present. This lecture is scheduled for Thursday from 18:00 to 19:00 in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall, and attendance is free for all interested.

In addition to Dewar’s lecture, the Science Seminar Series recommences on Friday with a presentation from Sean McKenna of the University of Manitoba. McKenna will discuss the role of non-coding RNAs in biological processes. This talk is set for 14:30 in Room 4-34 of the John R. Brodie Science Centre, providing an excellent opportunity for students and faculty to expand their knowledge of current scientific research.

Another highlight this week includes the return of Teachings House, where Knowledge Keeper Joan Church will share her personal journey and connection to her Métis identity. This reflective session takes place on Thursday from 11:30 to 13:00 in the He Oyate Tawapi Ceremony Room, inviting all to participate in this cultural exchange.

The weekend will showcase the 16th Brandon University Clarinet Festival on Saturday and Sunday. This festival features guest artists such as Jonathan Russell, Alex Whitehead, and Colin Mehmel, who will join faculty, alumni, and students for a weekend filled with performances and workshops.
