Peter Philips, the creative and image director for Dior’s beauty division, recently shared his expert tips for achieving long-lasting makeup during an event in New York City. As a key figure in the luxury brand since 2014, Philips is well-versed in the latest trends and techniques in makeup application. His insights come as Dior prepares to launch new products, including a reformulated foundation and innovative makeup techniques.

During the event in Soho, Philips discussed the brand’s upcoming collaborations, particularly with Dior’s fashion designer Jonathan Anderson. “Everyone has their own territory,” Philips explained, “but at Dior, we do have crossovers.” This synergy between fashion and beauty encapsulates the “one Dior vibe” that defines the brand’s identity.

Philips recounted a recent backstage challenge at Paris Fashion Week when a model arrived with stitches after an incident at a party. “We found a way to combine the concealer with a mixed medium,” he said, showcasing his ability to adapt under pressure. This anecdote highlights Philips’ extensive knowledge of makeup artistry, emphasizing the importance of a flawless canvas.

Dior has recently reformulated its popular Dior Forever Skin Perfect foundation, introducing a new liquid version. The updated product features thinner, fully recyclable glass packaging and promises a long-wear, no-transfer experience for up to 24 hours. “The pigments and polymers are mixed together in advance to make a smoother foundation,” Philips stated, noting that it is buildable for customizable coverage.

To achieve a long-lasting look, Philips advocates for applying makeup in thin layers. “You need some moisturizer,” he advised, emphasizing that moisturizing is crucial even with skin-caring foundation ingredients. He recommends a lightweight lotion followed by a moisturizing cream before applying foundation. “If you do too much, it will slide off,” he cautioned.

The makeup expert also highlighted the effectiveness of setting sprays. “We’re actually launching one next year,” he teased, referring to an upcoming Dior product. Philips shared insights gained from his recent trip to Korea, where he observed K-pop stars using setting spray between each step of their makeup routine. “They do four or five layers of setting spray,” he explained, referring to the technique as “mille-feuille” or a thousand layers.

Philips suggested integrating subtle bronzing into the makeup routine, using the new Dior Forever Skin Bronze sticks. Applying bronzer under foundation can create a natural sun-kissed effect. “I would do it as an under makeup,” he advised, noting that while bronzer is making a resurgence, it will not replace blush. Instead, it adds depth to a beauty routine.

When it comes to placement, Philips encourages experimentation. “There are so many possibilities,” he remarked, referring to the trends in applying both blush and bronzer. As makeup continues to evolve, Philips’ insights provide a glimpse into the artistry behind creating looks that not only enhance beauty but also withstand the test of time.

For those interested in elevating their makeup game this spring, Philips’ techniques offer a roadmap to achieving a flawless, long-lasting look. With Dior’s innovative products and Philips’ expert guidance, beauty enthusiasts can navigate the latest trends with confidence.
