Vancouver has secured its place as one of the top destinations for senior travellers, ranking 19th in a new global list released by AllClear Travel. The United Kingdom-based organization evaluated various cities for their suitability for older tourists, emphasizing comfort, safety, and accessibility. The ranking is part of their report on the most grandparent-friendly cities to visit in 2026.

Analysis of Senior-Friendly Features

In their comprehensive analysis, AllClear assessed 175 cities worldwide based on factors such as walkability, safety, healthcare access, and public transport. The organization stated, “To identify the world’s most ‘grandparent-friendly’ cities, we focused on the features that make travelling later in life more pleasant.” This approach highlighted the importance of comfortable environments and ease of sightseeing over more energetic activities.

Vancouver achieved an overall score of 59.3, making it the only Canadian city to feature in the top 30 of the ranking. The city excelled in several key areas, particularly in “walkable” streets, which scored 9.7, “green space” with a score of 10.9, and “culture access” at 10.5. These scores reflect Vancouver’s commitment to providing a pleasant experience for older visitors.

Conversely, the city received lower scores in “climate comfort,” which earned a rating of 4.9, and “peace and quiet,” which only garnered 3.7. These ratings may indicate areas where improvements could enhance the travel experience for seniors.

British Columbia in the Spotlight

Vancouver’s recognition comes amid growing attention for British Columbia as a prime travel destination. Lonely Planet recently included the province in its list of the 25 must-visit locations for 2026. Additionally, several British Columbia sites have been highlighted as top travel spots for Canadians this winter, including popular destinations like Vancouver and Whistler.

The AllClear ranking not only showcases Vancouver’s appeal but also emphasizes the city’s dedication to creating a welcoming environment for older travellers. As the travel season approaches, these recognitions may encourage more seniors to explore the vibrant culture and stunning landscapes that Vancouver and British Columbia offer.
