Two Arrested After Stabbing Incident in St. John’s Park

Two individuals were arrested and charged with aggravated assault following a stabbing incident in St. John’s Park, located in north Winnipeg, early on March 15, 2024. The Winnipeg Police Service responded to a call just after 02:00 local time, reporting a stabbing in the park, situated near Main Street and St. John’s Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 36-year-old man with multiple stab wounds. He received first-aid treatment at the scene before being transported to a local hospital in unstable condition. According to a news release from the Winnipeg Police Service, the victim’s condition later improved to stable, allowing him to provide detailed descriptions of his assailants.
The police swiftly initiated a search for the suspects. Approximately ten minutes after the initial call, officers located the first suspect near Salter Street and St. John’s Avenue. During this encounter, a knife was seized from the individual.
A second suspect, identified as an 18-year-old man, was apprehended nearby on Salter Street, between Mountain Avenue and Manitoba Avenue. The investigation led to charges of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon against a 25-year-old man, while the 18-year-old was charged with aggravated assault. Both suspects are currently in custody.
This incident has raised concerns within the community, prompting local authorities to emphasize the importance of public safety. As investigations continue, police are urging anyone with further information related to the incident to come forward.
This stabbing marks the latest in a series of violent events that have drawn attention to issues of safety in Winnipeg. The community remains on edge as law enforcement works diligently to address these challenges and ensure the well-being of its residents.
