Beloved Family Man Raymond Kondratuk Passes Away at 87
Raymond Kondratuk, a cherished husband, father, and friend, passed away on August 8, 2025, at the age of 87. Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, in 1938, he spent his formative years in the scenic Crow’s Nest Pass, where his love for the outdoors and the mountains blossomed during fishing trips with his father.
Kondratuk’s professional journey began in various roles across Alberta and British Columbia before he settled in Port Alice in 1963. There, he worked as a millwright and met his future wife, Edith. The couple married and soon began their family, which later included two children, Jim and Rae-Ann. In 1968, he joined PG Pulp and Paper, where he dedicated over three decades of service until his retirement in 2000.
Kondratuk was deeply involved in his community and had a profound passion for wildlife conservation. He worked with the Spruce City Wildlife Association and was known for organizing annual fishing trips for millwrights, fostering camaraderie among his peers. His love for nature also extended to his family, with countless weekends spent camping, boating, and fishing together.
Legacy of Love and Creativity
Ray and Edith enjoyed 32 years at their lakeside cabin on Francois Lake, where they created lasting memories with family and friends, especially after retirement. Known for his culinary skills, Ray hosted many gatherings, including memorable Ukrainian New Year’s Eve parties, which became a beloved tradition among their circle.
A talented artist and craftsman, Kondratuk explored various creative outlets, including oil and watercolor painting as well as wood and soapstone carving. His storytelling prowess captivated friends and family alike, as he entertained them with tales from his adventures.
Throughout his life, Ray remained a devoted husband and father. His family was his utmost priority, and he often promised Edith that their life together would never be dull. He fulfilled that promise right until the end, leaving behind cherished memories of joy, laughter, and love.
Kondratuk is survived by his wife, Edith Kondratuk, son Jim, daughter Rae-Ann, and son-in-law Malcolm Emery. As per his wishes, there will be no formal service. Friends and family will remember him for his vibrant spirit and unwavering love, which will continue to inspire all who knew him.
