Freight Train Collision Claims Life in Maple Ridge, B.C.

One person has died following a collision between a freight train and a vehicle at a controlled crossing in Maple Ridge, British Columbia. The incident occurred on the **morning of September 27, 2023**, around **9:40 a.m.**, in the **25800 block of Lougheed Highway**. The **Ridge Meadows RCMP** responded to reports of the serious accident shortly after it took place.
Investigators confirmed that one individual in the vehicle was killed due to the impact. However, police have not released any details regarding the identity of the victim or the type of vehicle involved in the collision. Emergency services, including firefighters and paramedics, were already on the scene when police arrived.
Investigation Underway
The area surrounding the collision was temporarily closed to traffic while **RCMP collision analysts** conducted their examination of the site. Authorities did not specify whether the railway crossing gates were activated at the time of the accident. In a statement, the police emphasized that the investigation is active and ongoing, adding, “No further information is available at this time.”
According to **B.C. Emergency Health Services**, paramedics received a call about the crash at **9:36 a.m.** Two ambulances were dispatched, one carrying primary care paramedics and the other with advanced care paramedics. Despite the gravity of the situation, agency spokesperson **Bowen Osoko** stated in an email that “no patients were transported to hospital.”
Appeal for Witnesses
In light of the ongoing investigation, authorities are appealing to witnesses. Police are asking anyone who may have dash-camera or surveillance video from the vicinity of the collision to come forward. Providing that information could be crucial to understanding the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
