Armenia is preparing for discussions with a U.S. delegation regarding a significant transit corridor intended to enhance connectivity with Azerbaijan. This initiative is part of a provisional peace agreement mediated by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that the U.S. delegation is expected to arrive in Yerevan during the week of September 8, 2023.

According to Armenian media, including a report from Armlur.am, the delegation’s agenda will cover the technical and political specifications of the corridor, informally named the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP). The discussions will also explore investment volumes, priorities, and timelines for commencing construction.

As of now, Armenian government officials have not confirmed these reports. Similarly, the official social media channels of the U.S. Embassy in Armenia have remained silent on the matter. However, on September 4, 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan met with Kristina Kvien, the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia. Their conversation reportedly focused on the follow-up to a peace plan signed on August 8, 2023, between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the White House.

While the official announcement did not specifically mention TRIPP, it highlighted discussions about “the prospects for unblocking communications in the region.” The envisioned corridor will span 42 kilometers, connecting Azerbaijan’s mainland to its Nakhchivan exclave via Armenian territory.

Under the terms of the agreement established on August 8, an American entity is set to oversee the management of TRIPP’s operations. The corridor’s construction is anticipated to significantly benefit the Middle Corridor, an emerging trade route that connects Central Asia to Europe while circumventing Russian territory.

This initiative represents a critical step in fostering peace and economic cooperation in a region historically marked by conflict. The outcomes of the upcoming discussions could have lasting implications for trade and diplomatic relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

As the situation develops, it will be essential to monitor how these talks progress and what they mean for regional stability and international partnerships.
