Joliet Invites Residents to Shape City’s Future at Workshop

Joliet residents will have the opportunity to influence the city’s future during a public workshop scheduled for Wednesday, September 17, 2023. This event, held at Joliet West High School, aims to gather community input for the first comprehensive plan since the 1950s, which will outline future development in the area.
Mayor Terry D’Arcy emphasized the importance of public engagement during a recent City Council meeting. “We’d like everyone to help guide the city of the future,” he stated, urging residents to participate actively in shaping the comprehensive plan. In addition to attending the workshop, D’Arcy encouraged individuals to complete a survey available on the city’s website, which seeks to collect diverse opinions on the upcoming plan.
Workshop Details and Participation
The workshop will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in an open house format, allowing community members to drop in at their convenience. Attendees can provide input on their priorities and vision for Joliet while learning more about the city’s development initiatives. According to a city announcement, light refreshments will be offered, and Spanish interpreters will be available to assist non-English speakers.
City officials have reiterated their commitment to incorporating community feedback into the planning process. “In order to make this a successful project, we need all hands on deck,” D’Arcy remarked, highlighting the collaborative effort required to create a viable and comprehensive plan.
Residents interested in further information about the comprehensive plan can visit the city’s official website at www.joliet.gov, specifically the Community Development page. This engagement opportunity is part of Joliet’s proactive approach to fostering community involvement in local governance and development.
