Kingston Fall Fair Cut Short After Bear Spray Incident and Arrests

The Kingston Fall Fair was abruptly closed on the evening of October 7, 2023, following multiple incidents that necessitated police intervention. Authorities responded to reports of bear spray being deployed at the Memorial Fair Grounds shortly after 22:00. Upon arrival, officers found two individuals who had suffered minor injuries from the spray and required medical attention.

Despite the prompt response, police reported a significant lack of witnesses and video surveillance, which hindered their ability to identify a suspect. The investigation into the bear spray incident remains ongoing as officials seek further information from attendees.

Additional Arrests at the Fair

In addition to the bear spray incident, police made two unrelated arrests during the fair. A 15-year-old was apprehended on charges related to weapons offences and breach of conditions of release. Additionally, a 17-year-old was arrested for breaching release conditions in connection with another incident. Both youths were taken into custody and held pending a bail hearing.

As a direct result of these events, the Kingston Fall Fair was officially closed around 22:30. The situation has raised concerns about safety at public events, prompting local authorities to increase vigilance at future gatherings.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to investigate these incidents and are appealing for any witnesses or additional information that could aid in resolving the ongoing inquiries.
