The Sault Ste. Marie Drug Strategy Committee is hosting the 10th annual Rockin’ Out for Recovery on October 3, 2023, from 17:00 to 19:00 at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion. This complimentary community event aims to unite individuals, families, service providers, and allies to celebrate recovery while fostering awareness and community connections.
This year’s event marks a significant milestone, as it highlights a decade of collective action focused on resilience, recovery, and reducing stigma related to drug use and mental health issues. According to a news release, the event serves as a platform for showcasing the courage and joy that comes from recovery. “As a community, recovery is something that we all take part in — it’s about hope, healing and supporting one another,” said Hilary Gordon, co-chair of the Sault Ste. Marie Drug Strategy Committee.
The evening promises to be a vibrant gathering featuring live music, cultural performances, and opportunities for attendees to connect with local organizations and community partners. Special remarks will be delivered by Mayor Matthew Shoemaker, alongside guest speakers who will share inspiring messages about healing and recovery.
Community Commitment to Recovery
More than just a celebration, Rockin’ Out for Recovery reflects Sault Ste. Marie’s ongoing commitment to creating a supportive and compassionate community for those affected by substance use. The Sault Ste. Marie Drug Strategy Committee is a collaborative initiative dedicated to mitigating the harms associated with substance use and facilitating pathways to recovery.
By uniting health providers, social service agencies, individuals with lived experiences, and community partners, the committee strives to enhance prevention measures, improve treatment and support services, and combat stigma. “The goal is to build a healthier, more compassionate community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive,” the release stated.
The annual event not only raises awareness of the challenges faced by the community but also celebrates the resilience and strength of those living in recovery. It creates a space for connection, understanding, and collaboration among diverse groups, emphasizing the importance of collective action in the journey toward recovery.
