Ottawa is bracing for significant rainfall today, with forecasts indicating that the city could receive between 15 to 25 mm of rain. This downpour comes just before a shift to warmer and sunnier conditions for the first weekend of fall. According to Environment Canada, showers are expected to start this morning and continue throughout the day.

The current rainfall forecast suggests that Ottawa may approach the record for the greatest rainfall recorded on September 25, which stands at 30.8 mm from 2005. So far this month, the city has received only 13.3 mm of rain, including 5.9 mm recorded on Monday.

Looking ahead, Friday is expected to bring a mix of sun and clouds, along with a 40 per cent chance of showers. The high temperature for the day is forecasted at 24 degrees Celsius. Saturday promises more favorable weather, with clear skies and a high of 23 degrees Celsius.

The extended forecast for Sunday and Monday indicates continued sunny conditions with daytime highs in the mid-20s Celsius. For context, the normal temperature range for this time of year typically includes a high of 17 degrees Celsius and a low of 7 degrees Celsius.

Residents of Ottawa can expect a brief but significant soaking today, followed by a return to pleasant autumn weather just in time for the weekend.
