Fans Compete for $240,000 Jackpot at Assiniboia Downs

The live racing season at Assiniboia Downs is approaching its conclusion, with the Jackpot Pick 5 pool surpassing $240,000. Horseplayers have only four racing days remaining before the meet wraps up on October 8, 2023. If the Jackpot Pick 5 has not been claimed by a single ticket by that date, the entire pool will be distributed to all winning tickets under mandatory payout regulations.
“This is always an interesting time in the meet,” said Darren Dunn, CEO of Assiniboia Downs. “We have a jackpot that’s growing fast, now nearing a quarter of a million dollars, and there are only a few days left before it can be won as a single winner. Recent races have featured a string of unexpected longshots, heightening the excitement surrounding the possibility of a single winner.”
As the season draws to a close, the $50,000 Guaranteed Pick 4 pool continues to attract substantial interest, often exceeding expectations. This season, Assiniboia Downs has also implemented a reduction in takeout rates across all pools, bringing the overall average to 18.44%, one of the lowest in North America.
Community Engagement and Recognition
On September 30, 2023, Assiniboia Downs will formally observe Truth and Reconciliation Day. Staff members will wear orange shirts in recognition of the day. Dunn emphasized the important contributions of Indigenous participants in the racing program, highlighting the ten consecutive leading trainer titles achieved by Indigenous horsemen. Currently, Trainer Steve Keplin Jr. holds a significant lead in the 2025 standings.
Live racing at Assiniboia Downs resumes on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 19:30 until the end of the season. Both Wednesday cards will feature the Girls Night Out promotion, which includes cash draws and special offers for attendees. Admission and parking remain free for all visitors. Fans also have the opportunity to participate in year-round simulcast wagering, along with gaming, cash draws, and food and beverage specials available at the facility.
As the season draws to a close, the excitement surrounding the growing jackpot and community engagement events continues to enhance the live racing experience at Assiniboia Downs.
