The Rochelle Township High School Education Foundation (RTHSEF) will host its second annual trivia night on October 15, 2023, at the Rochelle VFW Post 3878. Starting at 18:30, doors will open at 17:30, allowing teams to register ahead of time. The cost for each team of up to six participants is $150. Local businesses have generously donated prizes, and free snacks will be provided throughout the evening.

Participants can find more information and register via the RTHSEF Facebook page. The foundation is also offering sponsorship opportunities for those interested in supporting the event. RTHSEF operates as a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing educational experiences for all Rochelle Township High School students, supplementing resources beyond standard tax funding.

Grants Enhance Student Opportunities

Over the years, the RTHSEF has funded a variety of educational resources, significantly impacting students’ learning experiences. Recent grants include drones for technology classes, podcast hosting fees, and supplies for various clubs, such as Dungeons & Dragons and marching band equipment. The foundation has served the Rochelle community for 27 years and aims to raise $15,000 this year through events like trivia night.

Jodie Hart and Jillian Wise, representatives from RTHSEF, presented details of the trivia night at a recent Rochelle Rotary Club meeting. Wise emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, “We can only provide the things we provide for students through our fundraisers. Any donation helps, big or small. Our trivia night will be a fun time, and all proceeds go back to students.”

Real-World Impact on Students

The foundation’s contributions have made a tangible difference in the classroom. Deanna Jacobs, a teacher at RTHS, shared her experience with drone technology in her curriculum. “We’ve worked with drones for the past three years, and just over 180 students have gotten certified to be recreational drone pilots,” Jacobs explained. “We wouldn’t have been able to get our drones without RTHSEF, and we have nine now to get more kids out there learning.”

The trivia night will be emceed by RTHS wrestling coach Nelson Baker, adding an element of excitement to the event. The VFW bar will be open for drinks, creating a lively atmosphere for participants. “The trivia event is all for fun. Come out and support the kids in town. It’s all for the students,” Wise added.

With a successful first trivia night under their belt, the RTHSEF is moving to a larger venue this year to accommodate the expected turnout. The community’s support is crucial for sustaining the foundation’s mission, and every contribution helps enhance educational opportunities for students in Rochelle.
