Illinois Valley Community College to Present Hegeler-Carus Mansion History

Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) is set to delve into the rich history of the Hegeler-Carus Mansion during a presentation at noon on March 5, 2024. The event will be led by Anne Pesola, the education and outreach coordinator at IVCC, and is scheduled to take place in the C-201 Active Learning Space at Jacobs Library on the campus.
Exploring Architectural Heritage
The Hegeler-Carus Mansion, located in La Salle, Illinois, was designed by the prominent architect W.W. Boyington and completed in 1876. This historical site is celebrated not only for its architectural beauty but also for the influential families that have called it home throughout the years. With a remarkable structure comprising seven levels and 57 rooms, the mansion served as a hub for significant achievements in various fields, including industry, philosophy, publishing, and religion.
Alongside the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to visit a dedicated display at Jacobs Library. This exhibit will feature books and materials related to the Hegeler-Carus Mansion from the library’s extensive collections. The presentation aims to engage both IVCC students and local community members, fostering a deeper appreciation for the region’s historical landmarks.
Participation Details and Resources
The event is open to all, and IVCC encourages community involvement in exploring local history. Interested individuals can find further details about this event and other upcoming displays by visiting the library’s website at https://libguides.ivcc.edu/library.
This presentation not only highlights the architectural significance of the Hegeler-Carus Mansion but also reflects IVCC’s commitment to enriching community knowledge and appreciation of local heritage.
