Tech-Inspired Mural Celebrates Canada’s Innovations in Windsor

A vibrant tech-inspired mural was unveiled in downtown Windsor on March 15, 2024. Created by the local art collective Haunted Zoo, the mural is prominently displayed on the Red Piston building located on Chatham Street, just east of Caesars Windsor. This artwork highlights Canada’s significant contributions to technology, featuring iconic innovations such as the telephone, walkie-talkies, and zippers.

The mural is designed to form an image of the Canadian flag when viewed from a distance, effectively merging national pride with technological advancement. This project is part of a docu-series produced in collaboration with filmmaker Gavin Michael Booth, which will be aired on Bell Fibe.

Celebrating Innovation Through Art

Yvonne Pilon, CEO of WEtech Alliance, emphasized the mural’s importance in showcasing Canada’s innovative spirit. “It’s showcasing so much of the Canadian innovation, so the innovation that is Canada’s gift to the world. It’s also a display of partnership. This collaboration between Red Piston and Haunted Zoo demonstrates what can happen when technology and art come together,” she stated.

Artist Jeff Denomme from Haunted Zoo expressed his excitement about the project, noting his usual style leans towards neon aesthetics. “I had to innovate myself as well at the same time, but I’m super happy that it’s finally done and finally dropped. On to the next one,” Denomme said.

The unveiling of this mural not only celebrates technological progress but also represents a fusion of creativity and community involvement in Windsor. As the city continues to evolve, projects like this highlight the importance of art in reflecting and promoting local heritage and innovation.
