Abbotsford Recognized as One of Canada’s Best Employers for 2025
The City of Abbotsford has been recognized as one of Canada’s top employers for 2025, marking its first appearance on the prestigious list compiled by Canadian HR Reporter. This recognition highlights Abbotsford’s commitment to providing a supportive and engaging work environment, making it an attractive option for job seekers.
Abbotsford stands out in the category for organizations with over 500 employees, joining notable companies such as Bethesda Community Services, CAA Club Group of Companies, and Pet Valu Canada. Mayor Ross Siemens emphasized the importance of the city’s workforce, stating that employees are the backbone of local government, responsible for delivering high-quality services to the community. “One of council’s key strategic priorities is ensuring our workforce is involved, safe, and engaged,” Siemens remarked. “We are proud to foster a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and connected to meaningful public service, making Abbotsford a great place to live, play, and work.”
To be included in Canadian HR Reporter’s annual list, employers must achieve an overall job satisfaction rating of at least 75 percent. This requirement underscores the significance of certain employment factors, including flexible work options. A recent report by recruitment consultancy Robert Walters noted that employee preference for flexible work has surged since 2023. Despite these changing preferences, traditional benefits like medical and dental coverage continue to be paramount for many job seekers.
With approximately 26 percent of employees considering a job change in the latter half of 2025, maintaining a strong reputation as a desirable employer is increasingly critical across various sectors. This trend is particularly evident in British Columbia, where Statistics Canada reported that only 67.8 percent of workers expressed job satisfaction at the end of 2022. The provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan recorded even lower satisfaction rates, making high employer ratings a rare but valuable asset.
Among the 25 employers honored in Canadian HR Reporter’s list, only a select few are based in British Columbia. The City of Abbotsford credits its inclusion to fostering a work environment that embraces the diverse talents, backgrounds, and perspectives of its employees.
