Second Arrest Made in Fatal Stabbing of Jesse Halvorsen
Toronto police have announced the arrest of a second suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of 36-year-old Jesse Christian Halvorsen in Etobicoke. The incident occurred on the morning of September 12, 2024, during an altercation involving a group of individuals near Lake Shore Boulevard West and Islington Avenue. Halvorsen sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed shortly after.
Halvorsen’s death marked the city’s 60th homicide victim of the year. Following the stabbing, authorities arrested Shawn Downs-Abbot, aged 35, who was charged with second-degree murder. More than a year later, on October 25, 2025, police apprehended Michael Jones, a 61-year-old man without a fixed address, who has also been charged with second-degree murder.
