The CVI Restaurant & Lounge received significant support from local businesses and individuals during a challenging festive season marked by critical kitchen equipment failures. Manager Bonnie Park expressed deep gratitude for the generosity shown to her team, which was particularly stressed during the busy holiday period.

Over the past few weeks, CVI faced repeated breakdowns of essential kitchen equipment, creating a daunting situation for Park and her staff. She described the stress of the circumstances, stating, “In the middle of banquet season and holiday parties, when the pressure is high and expectations are even higher, some of our most critical kitchen equipment decided to fail, not once but over and over again.” Despite the mounting challenges, the CVI team remained committed to serving their guests.

In a display of community solidarity, the owners of Duncan Meadows Golf Course lent their equipment to CVI, a gesture Park characterized as one of “generosity and trust.” This support was crucial during a time when quick solutions were needed. Park also acknowledged the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit for stepping in as a backup option and Annette from Island Pastry Haus for her rapid response to an emergency request.

Several other local businesses joined in to offer immediate assistance. Park thanked Lance and Liz from Craig Street Brew Pub, Oak Taphouse, and Just Jakes for providing temporary solutions that allowed CVI to continue operations. Communication support from Curtis from Red Arrow Brewing was invaluable, as well as help from plumbing companies like FBM Plumbing, Baker Plumbing, and Tristar Plumbing, which addressed urgent queries and conducted site visits when time was critical.

In addition, Park credited Jeff at the Old Firehouse Wine Bar for facilitating connections that opened further avenues for assistance and recognized North Cowichan Coun. Tek Manhas for providing additional support and guidance during the crisis.

“The community truly came together, and together we conquered,” Park said. “It honestly felt like a Christmas miracle for the CVI.” She emphasized the importance of not only the material support but also the compassion and dedication shown by those involved. “This was not just about companies helping companies; it was about the hearts behind the brands,” Park noted.

Park’s appreciation extended to her own team, led by executive chef Nick. “No one walked away from the problem, no one expressed negativity, and everyone knew they had to do with what they had and pulled through harder every day,” she said, highlighting the resilience and teamwork essential to overcoming the obstacles they faced.

As the festive season winds down, the CVI team is left feeling humbled by the overwhelming support from the community. Park concluded with a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved, stating, “Your efforts did not go unnoticed.”
